가족소개 (introducing your family)

Hello everyone, here's a thread for everyone to practice and learn how to introduce your family in Korean!!

It can be very simple or very complex depending on how many details you want to cover, right?

Here are some basic words for the members of the family

♥ 할아버지 = grandfather
♥ 할머니 = grandmother
♥ 아버지 = father
♥ 아빠 = Dad
♥ 어머니 = mother
♥ 엄마 = Mom
♥ 부모님 = parents
♥ 형 = older brother (if you're male)
♥ 오빠 = older brother (if you're female)
♥ 누나 = older sister (if you're male)
♥ 언니 = older sister (if you're female)
♥ 남동생 = younger brother
♥ 여동생 = younger sister
♥ 아내 = wife
♥ 남편 = husband
♥ 아이 = kid
♥ 아이들 = kids
♥ 아들 = son
♥ 딸 = daughter

If you can form sentences, that'll be great, but even if you can, please try to use those word in your English sentences and let's try! Introduce your family in Korean!!


EXAMPLE

I am living with my (sister).
저는 여동생과 함께 살고 있습니다.

I have two (sisters).
저는 (여동생)이 두 명 있습니다.

And you ???

What's the word for twin? Faternal and identical.

the word for twin is '쌍둥이' ^_^

You mean 'fraternal', right?

fraternal twins are 이란성 쌍둥이,

identical twins are 일란성 쌍둥이




Do you have a twin brother or sister?

yeah I meant fraternal. I should know how to spell it because I am a fraternal twin! Oh well. I have a twin sister. Is it the same as Japanese where if I want to say the gender of my twin i would use "older sister" because she's technically (by 4 minutes) older than me?

That's right! Korean culture plays more emphasis on age than other cultures. And you definitely have to refer to her as your older sister. You call your sister 누나 (nuna) if you are male, 언니 (eonni) if you are female.

But most twins won't call each other by those titles. They'll just say their brother or sister's name It's only when referring to their brother or sister, do they typically use those titles.

I know some twins that are very strict about addressing each other relative to their ages. There is definitely a big sister/little sister relationship even though they are twins. I guess they are the exception then.

제 가족은 큰 편입니다. 누나 있고 여동생 있습니다. 또 형님 세명 있습니다. 우리 다 결혼했습니다. 제 부인은 한국 사람이고 우리는 자녀가 네명 있습니다. 재일 큰 아이가 고등학생이고 막내가 바로 유치원을 다니기 시작했습니다.
My family is on the large side. I have an older sister and a younger sister. I also have three older brothers. We are all married. My wife is Korean and we have four children. The oldest is a high school student and the youngest just started kindergarten.

거기에 비하면 제 이름 '현우'는 너무 평범해요...ㅠ.ㅠ
(Compared to their names, my name "현우" is too plain.)
