When you want to describe a specific condition for a noun, you could make a verb into an adjective by attaching them.

For example,

예쁜 꽃 : 예쁘(다) + ㄴ + 꽃
군만두 : 굽(다) -> 구우 + ㄴ + 만두
입은 옷 : 입(다) + 은 + 옷
가는 세월 : 가(다) + 는 + 세월

Hope this helps. :D

question

-아(어/여)보다...would this mean "to try something out"? "to see if something work"? something in those lines?

You're exactly right.
Here are some examples.

It makes sense but little bit awkward.

You'd better say,

저는 성격이 시원한 사람이예요.
저는 성격이 시원한 편이예요.
저는 (매사에) 시원시원한 사람이예요.

but it's not very often to say a compliment oneself in Korean culture. :)

What's the meaning of 시원한 성셕?

'cool personality' is not a compliment in English. It means distant and unfriendly.

i'm an amerian...raise in america and i've never heard anything like that being a neg. thing. i've always heard "cool" referring to personality as a positive thing. where u get "distant and unfriendly" from?

It's a variation on saying that someone is cold as in:

'A cold look'
'A cold shoulder'
'An ice queen'
'Cold-blooded'

also, "cold shoulder" "cold look" those are actions. what i was speaking of was what u could say to someone, or about urself "you are a cool person" "i'm cool"

Right. My first thought was just ' a more mild form of cold'. There's also the meaning of relaxed and non-plussed, like:
'As cool as a cucumber'

Well... I think it's same with English.

시원한 성격 : cool personality (positive)

차가운 성격 : cold personality (negative)
