Quick small question

Hey

I've been trying to learn korean for a short period and up till now most i can fully grasp.
There is one small issue witch is bugging me

작은 means small, 작아요 means to be small.

Now if I would want to say: Do you have a small book?
It would look something like: 당신은 작은 책이 있어요?
Atleast i think that's what it would look like

What if I would want to say: Do you have a book that is small?
So using 작아요 in the sentence.

Is this possible?
Or is 작아요 only used in sentences like: 그건 너무 작아요.

Hope the question makes some sence.

Thank you for your question and it is indeed a 'small' problem!haha

작아요 is the verb while 작은 is the adjective.

So you could say 당신은 작은 책이 있습니까? while 당신은 책이 작아요 있습니까? not working because of duplicating the verb.

So as you have explained, 이 책은 작아요 - you could use that!:)

If you would like to say this book is too small, then it would be 이 책은 너무 작아요!;)

If I understand correctly these sentence should be possible.

이 책은 진짜 작아요. This book really is small
이것은 진짜 작은 책이 예요. This is a really small book

당신의 책은 작아요. Your book is small
당신은 작은 책이 있어요. You have a small book.

As i see it In english you can 'play' around with the words: You have a small book/ you have a book that is small.
Where as in Korean both statements can be derived from the same sentence.

Is this a correct assumption?

Just a small correction,

이 책은 진짜 작아요. This book really is small
이것은 진짜 작은 책이 예요. This is a really small book -> 책이에요 instead of 책이 예요!;)

당신의 책은 작아요. Your book is small
당신은 작은 책이 있어요. You have a small book. -> You could also say 있어요 but we would rather say 가지고 있어요 which means 'have'.

Hello again

Another question popped up which is irritating me and instead of opening a new thread I thought it would be best to continue in this one.

If I want to say: There is a tree behind the house. -> 나무가 집 뒤에 있어요.
First off is this correct?

Second. If I want to make it the tree do I use "나무는" then?

And finally. How would I mix things up to say: A tree/a house; A tree/the house; The tree/a house; The tree/the house.

Sorry if this question is farfetched but it's bugging me ^^

That is a small difference but also a difference indeed!:D

For -는, this would be a lot more neutral - so you could say 나무는 which means 'a tree'

If you would like to say 'the tree', then you could say 나무가 as it emphasizes more!;)

Does that make sense?:)

- I want that t-shirt, that sweater and that hat.
Here I want those specific items. So would I use 가/이 after each noun?

Here it doesn't matter what color or size. Would I use 응/는 after each noun?

-I want that t-shirt, a sweater and that hat.
Would this then be 티셔츠가 와 스웨터는 그리고 모자가.

I completely understand where this comes from now!

However, when you mention to ask for it this subjects are not used at all..

For example when you say that sentence to a clerk, in Korean would be 저 티셔츠, 스웨터, 모자 주세요.

So the subject particles are not used at all.

However, when you mention I especially fancy this shirt, sweater, and hat out of many items, you could say
이 티셔츠, 스웨터, 모자가 이뻐요.

But when you say in general you like t-shirt, sweater and a hat, then you could say
이 티셔츠, 스웨터, 모자는 자주 사용하는 아이템이에요.

Hope this gives you a bit of insight?

I understand the examples you have given me but I doubt I would be able to make sentences like those myself.
At least not yet.

Though these examples will definitely help me since I got something concrete to fall back to while studying further.

I've reached the point where I'm learning past and future tenses.
I've made a few sentences trying out these new times.
If possible could you check if they are correct?

내일 저는 늦게 학교 갈 거예요. Tomorrow I'll be going late to school.
내일 저는 새 차 살 거예요. Tomorrow I'll be buying a new car.

오늘 이거 바지 입어. Today I'm wearing these pants
어제 저거 바지 입었어. Yesterday I wore those pants.
내일 치마 입을 거예요. Tomorrow I will be wearing a skirt.

이거 수업 쉬워. This lesson is easy.
이거 수업 쉬웠어. This lesson was easy.
이거 수업 쉬울 거예요. This lesson will be easy.
이거 수업 쉬워고 싶어. I want this lesson to be easy.

I wanted this lessen to be easy. -> 이 수업이 쉽기를 바랬어요.

수업 쉬워지 마세요. Lesson, do not be easy! -> 수업이 쉽지 않았음 좋겠어요.(unfortunately this one cannot be translated fully as it is very English style of expression!haha but you could say 'i am hoping the class would not be easy!)
Would that be grammatically correct?

I've come across some new ways to conjugate verbs and I wanted to test my knowledge of it.

Could you correct me on these sentances please?

저는 돈 없어서 은행에 갈 거예요.
I dont have any money so, I'm going to go to the bank.

저는 배고파서 다 먹을 거예요.
I'm hungry so, I'll eat everything.

오늘은 아직 일곱 시간 일해야돼.
Today I still have to work 7 hours.

저는 내일 일해야돼서 지금 일찍 잘 거예요.
I have to work tomorrow so, I will be going to bed early now.

저는 오늘 일찍 일해야돼서 어제 늦게 안 잤어.
I have to work early today so, I didn't go late to bed yesterday.
