홀아비 냄새 난다!

I hear this phrase "홀아비 냄새"... I understand that 홀아비 means widower. Is this phrase really only used on widowers? Or perhaps also 노총각? Why is it that "홀아비" often sounds like 홀애비? Is it 사투리... or is it just a problem with my ears...?

Similar to the word "창피". I swear that I always hear it as "챙피"... but I think its a problem with my ears.

It's kind of 사투리.
They tend to use ㅐ instead of ㅏ in colloquial conversations.

And yes.
홀아비 냄새 could be used for 노총각 or even for kids.
