For those who don't know, I have a sordid love affair with history - particularly Korean history. I'm as nerdy as they come and I've tackled a few great books already - but I'd like to get some visual goodness, too.
I'm curious if anyone knows if there are any good movies/documentaries about:
- Hendrick Hamel
- 삼국시대 (백제, 신라, 고구려) (Three Kingdoms Period)
- 고려국 and the Mongol invasions
- 대조선국 (Joseon Period)
- 일제시대 (Japanese colonial rule 1910-1945)
- 삼일 운동 (만세운동) (March 1st)
- 5월 18일 (광주 민주화 운동) (Gwangju Uprising)
Any good recommendations? They can be dramas, movies, documentaries, etc in either Korean or English. For all I know, there's a plethora of quality films made but I just haven't taken notice. More importantly, I wouldn't know where to start. I know austin has recommended 화려한 휴가 for 5.18 which I'm in the middle of watching right now (thx BTW).
Oh, and for like minded people, I have some good Korean history dirt on some post-Korean War American POWs who defected to China, links to some stellar articles about shipwrecks and foreigners being bad in the 1800s, and a primer for all things North Korea related.
