I saw a documentary the other day, and there was a speech by 김인순, leader of North Korea. The subtitles kept mentioning 'North Korea' and I was listening out for what he was saying, (I was listening for something that sounded like 한극) but all I heard was 저순. This rang a bell because the Chinese word is 朝鲜... is 저순 (or however it's spelt) another word for 북한?

Also, I understood some of the Korean in the documentary. A south Korean actress was telling about how she was abducted and taken to Pyong Yang. She described how she was taken into a huge room, and introduced to a short man with glasses. His simple words (in Korean): 안녕하닙니카,저 극 김인순. (Hello, I'm Kim Il Sung). I was happy that I could understand that much without subtitles! A sad story though.

His name is 김일성, and what he said is "조선인민주의공화국".

It's 朝鲜人民主意共和国 in Chinese.

And I believe the last part of 공화국(which is 'republic'), '화국' sounded like '한국'


조선인민주의공화국 is the official name for North Korea.

조선 is the name of the previous dynasty of Korea,

and 인민주의 means 'populism'

and 공화국 means 'republic'

I just finished listening to lesson #4. Things are coming along! I noticed that the lesson introduced Australia as a phonetic translation and I thought that I would check the list here and it is the same. Does Australia still go by 호주?

Yeah, Austrailia goes by 호주 as well.
I'd say it's 50-50.

I believe 호주 is written in the PDF as well.
I will update the list by adding 호주 next to 오스트레일리아.
