자네 = you

Wondering when is this used, and are there any restrictions?

자네 is used usually by older males to younger males to address the other person, and they are not so close to each other. :)

It kind of has a nuance of talking down to the person but not necessarily with any insulting intended. :)

If my father was to talk to someone I know but who's older than me, and he's younger than my father, he would say "자네"

"자네, 올해 몇 살인가?"
= How old are you this year?

And for example, a girl's father talking to her boyfriend would say something like,

자네, 우리 딸 사랑하나?
= Do you love my daughter?

This is kind of antique word but commonly used nowadays.

This word is used when older person addresses younger person.
It sounds more polite slightly than 너.

You could watch them using this in the historical dramas. I guess.
Sometimes they use this word also between friends.
