Instant translate feature from Google

Didn't see this posted already, there's a feature for Google toolbar that lets you translate any English word you read online into Korean by just scrolling over it.

Its the last option listed on the page.
I've found it really useful in learning some high frequency words that I come across in my regular web surfing. Saves a lot of time over looking something up in a dictionary.

Once you install google toolbar just go to "settings", "options", and check the translator box. Set it to Korean and you're all ready. If you're like me and don't like looking at toolbars much you can set the toolbar itself to be hidden in Firefox.

Thanks for the tip - however, now I am totally confused as i just scrolled over the word "make" and it gave several options

be careful when using those types of translators. i've never used google's translator, but they are usually pretty inaccurate. especially the translators that will translate a whole sentence..

i highly recommend naver's dictionary. you can't scroll over and get the definition, but i always have a separate window open to it and look things up from there. you may want to have it around just to check the reliability of anything you aren't sure of.

you can search either in korean or english. they also have hanja, japanese, and chinese dictionaries if you look at the tabs at the top!

Couldn't agree more with you Emily - but for high frequency words, it gets the job done quite nicely. The OP even expresses this as it's primary use.

Having said that, you couldn't more right. Google (and moreso Babelfish)'s auto-translating service is horrific! I've gotten pretty good at manipulating the translator to get what I want out of it, but you're right - whole sentences? Forget about it. Naver's is better as it gives multiple responses.

The "mouse-over" function of Google's translator that Kmanley suggests is perfect for my needs. My weakest area of Korean is my spelling - it's pretty scary. I spell like a four year old...but this mouse over translator helps me quickly sort out common spellings mistakes.

Well once again it uses the google translate system, which as people have rightly pointed out is often suspect, but I use the firefox add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/918 . I set it to Korean-English and any word I highlight gets a translation option on my right click menu. Its not as easy as a rollover effect, but its quicker than looking something up in a separate window.

I totally agree with everyone here that these tools are best for reinforcing vocabulary words or spell checking. Not to get off on too much of a tangent here but after reading this article : http://www.sciencentral.com/articles/vi ... =218393117 I like to look up translations that are on the tip of my tongue but i can't complete right away rather than try to think about them too hard.
