In the KoreanClass101.com Forum Index under the Korean Language (한국어) section, is it possible to have a forum called 한국어능력시험 (TOPIK) devoted to the Test of Proficiency in Korean?

I second that. I think we should have some kind of proficiency test on here. Although I would be very discouraged by my results.

Click on 자료실 "Data Room" And you can download PDFs and MP3s from past tests, including answer keys from all levels. What a great way to practice, and get a reasonably accurate guide to your own Korean level.

Hi!

Did anyone take the TOPIK exam this year? What did you think of them?

I took Beginner S-TOPIK and the Business TOPIK exams in the UK last weekend. I thought the Beginner paper was quite easy. I was especially happy with the essay title (just asking for a basic self-introduction). The business TOPIK was quite tough though. I was ok on the first 1/3rd of the paper, but I found the last 1/3rd impossible!

I think there should definitely be a dedicated TOPIK room on LearningClass101.

I second this. I am considering taking the B-TOPIK at some point, and it would be great to have preparation material for the more advanced material covered on the test.

I really want to take it in September, I agree we need to have a study group or something just for TOPIK.

If someone were to pass the test on it's most difficult level does that mean that they have completely mastered Korean?

Yes - to get the highest grade in TOPIK (level 6) you would need to have mastered Korean. More specifically you need to be able to:

- Perform language functions necessary for professional research fields or affairs with relative accuracy and fluency
- Perform overall range of even unfamiliar topics such as politics, economics, society, and culture
- Perform native-like level of functional performance in conveying message

I heard that even native speakers of Korean find some of the advanced level questions tricky!

Ok, but I have heard of people that have passed the TOIEC (English test) and they are still pretty shy about their English abilities because they are not tested in every area, such as speaking.

Yeah - someone who achieved level 6 in TOPIK (the maximum) may still have a weakness in speaking Korean, compared to their other language skills because speaking isn't tested in the exam. Only listening, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar are examined in TOPIK.
