This is a photo from aboard a inner-city bus(시내 버스 = sinae beoseu). One ride is 900 won if you use a transportation card, 1000 won if you pay in cash.



You press the little buzzer when you want to get off the bus. If you don't, and you suddenly want to get off the bus and tell the driver to drop you off, chances are that you'll be very openly ignored.

우, 버스 are very popular in korea! I have never really ride on a bus beside for field trips and such. Are there field trips in korean schools?

Yep We call them "수학 여행" in Korean and there's usually a big 수학 여행(field trip) once in your middle school period and once in your high school period.

What's the grades for elemenary, middle, and high school? like for me,
elemenary is kindergarten ->5th grade

middle school: 6th->8th

high school: 9th->12th

And as for the grading system, it's different in Korea.

Each school has its own grades

초등학교 (elementary school) - 1th grade ~ 6th grade
중학교 (middle school) - 1th grade ~ 3th grade
고등학교 (high school) - 1th grade ~ 3th grade

And after that is 대학교(university) ^_^ which is 4 years.

In Korean dramas and movies it seems like the bus is a common transportation method. How common is it for people to actually drive themselves?

Well, it is still very common to drive, as well. One family has an average of one or two cars and a lot of people would rather drive than wait for the subway trains or buses (especially in places other than central Seoul)

But having a car is very expensive and take a lot of time because in Korea a lot of people seem to care so much about how clean their cars are - so you have to put a lot of money and time into managing the car as well as gas and taxes.

Now that you mentioned it, I think the white blouse is prettier than the bag the girl has... hehe. Anyway, in fact the picture was taken around 5 pm as far as I remember but it was on a holiday and near 동대문, where it's always jammed. hehe.

I'm so glad I don't live in 동대문 anymore... those streets are a disaster!
