Visiting Korea for the first time

Postby dancy_saz_226160 » July 17th, 2014 11:10 am

I am travelling to Seoul in August for a week. I've only been learning Korean for two months. For those who have been Korea, was there any troublesome communication situations?

I am only at beginner level, so I wonder if I will be okay trying to speak Korean to people. Currently, I am living in Japan, and my Japanese isn't that great either but I am getting by. So, what's it like in Korea. This is my first time going to Korea, so I don't really know what to expect.

Do you have any helpful tips when visiting Korea for the first time?

Hi there,

You probably know how to say basic Korean phrases such as annyeonghaseyo "hello" and gamsahamnida "thank you."
Koreans are generally very kind and are willing to help foreigners. But some of them might be hesitant at first because their foreign language skills are not that great. So just make to smile and say annyeonghaseyo. :D

It also helps to speak slowly to get your point across. But do not worry too much. Most Koreans understand English.

Have fun!

Thanks,
