I need some help with this tense

Postby elystie9565 » June 24th, 2012 3:08 am

I'm attempting to talk to my Korean friend and he says: "너 먹고싶은거" I feel like I have a sense of what he's saying, but I'm not sure what the -은거 ending means exactly. When I told him that, he rephrased with "너가 먹고싶어하는거" I'm still not sure about the ending. I would really like some help understanding these...tenses? They are a bit above me haha.

Hi elystie9565,

Thank you for your comment!

This is Madison from Koreanclass101.com.

It is a good questiona and understand where you confusion comes from!

Grammatically it should be 먹고싶은 것. ~것 means something

So is there something you would like to eat - 것 means something, 먹고싶은 means (you) would like to eat.

Same applies to 먹고 싶어하는 것 - 먹고 싶어하다 + 것 are combined to make it as one subject.

Hope this helped and please let us know if you still don't understand!:)

Thank you
