Honorific form

Postby naomitan884875 » June 2nd, 2011 2:23 am

Hello,

I am a beginner and have just started listening to the beginners lessons recently.
I need to learn Korean in order to hold a conversation with my mother in law.
However, when I practise what I have learned with my husband, he said I cannot use those with my mother in law. Very rude he says.
I was telling him that I will ask " Bab mogosoyo" (Have you eaten?) to my mother in law and he said that is not the way to ask her.
Does Koreanclass 101 have lessons on honorific form??

Cheers
Naomi

Hi Naomi,

You have a great name!

I am your fellow student, George - call me Younghoon.

Honorifics are kind of mixed in here at KC101, but they usually let you know if it is casual or polite form.

Here are some very polite examples:

Did you eat? Shiksah hashusumnikka?

Did you eat (rice)? Jinji dushushsumnikka?

Hi Younghoon,

Kamsahamnida!
I will say this to my mother-in-law.
Hopefully Korean class 101 will have lessons on conversations with mother in law or something in the future.
Thanks again Younghoon.

[eomeoni siksa hasyeosseoyo?] is commonly used.

four together year -사랑해

four with sun - 가랑해
