Hello Dustin,

Postby timandyou » November 11th, 2010 1:14 am

Hello Dustin,
Thanks for doing that. You must give a big credit on yourself for doing this practice sheet.
anyway... let's take a look at your works.

This is her book.
이것은 그녀의 책들입니다.

This is correct and great!

There is his coffee.
저기는 그의 커피입니다 (그의 커피를 있습니다)

Oh, Dustin... here, "there" can't be translated as 저기.
I think you know the usage of "there is" and "there are"... In this sentence, "there" is NOT subject but "there is" is VERB.

"There is/there are" can be translated as - Noun + 이/가 있다/있습니다.
In this sentence, "there is his coffee", "his coffee" is the NOUN.
As you wrote, "his coffee" is 그의 커피 + 이/가, in this case use what? yes, use 가! therefore, 그의 커피"가".
so, altogether... "there is his coffee" is 그의 커피가 + 있다/있습니다 = 그의 커피가 있다/있습니다.

you wrote,
Here is our kimbab.
여기는 우리의 김밥입니다.

Is "here" a subject in this sentence? or an adverb?
What you wrote means "here" = "our Kimbab". I don't think it makes sense...
Think about this... when you go to a coffeeshop, the waitress brings you coffee by saying, "here is your coffee".
In this sentence, "here" is an adverb - 여기(에).
"your coffee" is 너의 커피가 + "here is" 여기(에) 있다/있습니다.
Therefore, "here is your coffee" is 너의 커피가 여기(에) 있습니다.

I hope my explanation helps
cheers,
Tim 8)

팀은 감사합니다

My lesson notes:
있다/있습니다 there is/are
Sentence formation : noun + 이/가(subject particle) 있다/있습니다
Remembering: 이다 "to be" adding 입니다 creates that "noun" has identity (저는 더스틴입니다) or is something (이것은 그녀의 책들입니다)

Corrections hopefully to my sentences

There is his bibimbab. (in Korean: his의 bibimbab이 there is)
그의 비빔밥이 있습니다.

Here is our kimbab. (our의 kimbab이 here(에) it is/exists)
우리의 김밥이 여기(에) 있습니다.

Her shoes are here, (i think: here는 her의 shoes-are) sooo...
여기는 그녀의 신발입니다.

Does this look right? 감사합니다 I think 알 겠습니다

Other lesson notes
I have particle 에 being equal to at, in, and location

:P :P :P
Over all great works! 97 out of 100!

However, you need to think of this sentence again...
Her shoes are here, (i think: here는 her의 shoes-are) sooo...
여기는 그녀의 신발입니다.

You wrote, "여기는 그녀의 신발입니다" , means 여기"here" = 그녀의 신발 "her shoes".

How would you answer me if I ask you "where is your shoes?"?
and you are holding your shoes and saying to me, "my shoes are here!"
my hint for you is that "here" is NOT a subject in this sentence BUT an adverb just like you wrote, "Here is our kimbab". (our의 kimbab이 here(에) it is/exists) 우리의 김밥이 여기(에) 있습니다.

so, can you do that again?
"Her shoes are here"

cheers,
Tim 8)

Ah 감사합니다 so

Her shoes are here. (her의 shoes이 here에 are)
그녀의 신발이 여기에 있습니다.

Hopefully got it this time :)
