Just out of curiosity, for people who grew up speaking in dialect, since they pronounce the words so differently, do they write differently as well? Or if not, won't they have immense difficulty in writing the "proper" Korean?

For instance, if Jeolla people pronounce 냄세as 냄시, do they write it as 냄세 or 냄시??

I think the answer for your question is "UP TO THEM".
However, one thing I am sure about is that if they write "냄시", meaning 냄새 "smell", in writing exam(s), it's INCORRECT!
Yes, in casual speech/writing, it's totally fine!
It's the same as English.
Think about when you type things in English (dialect words/sentences). ㅎㅎㅎ

orbiter - well -- how do you account for 몰라요, 먹어요, 많이, and 맹세?

내 생각에는 ㅁ 은 분명히 "M" 자와 비슷하다.

oops!! I accidentally commented here on what orbiter said in the other ㅂ vs ㅁ thread:

When I first saw the title, I thought of something altogether different:

I’m not sure if this is evident, but Koreans pronounce theirㅁ (m) sometimes asㅂ (b/p).
For instance, “맜있다” sometimes sounds like “MBashidda”. One common word is “뭐”. It often sounds like it is pronounced with a B rather than an M.
