One month in Korea

Postby madelinehinnergardt3214 » October 14th, 2010 4:21 am

I'm going to be spending a month in Korea in January. I was wondering how much money I should bring for shopping and occasionally eating out. Thanks!

That is so cool -- and it will be so cold in Korea in January.

I also have tentative plans to visit Korea for the month of January, 2011 --who knows maybe we will pass by each other :?:

If you see this bearded white man -- well that will be me -- although I will likely be wearing a different hat!

Hello madelinehinnergardt3214, trutherous,

George, the question was "how much money I should bring for shopping and occasionally eating out?"
and you gave the answer by saying, "I will likely be wearing a different hat!"
Oh~~man~~~!!!!!

Hello madelinehinnergardt3214,
This is Tim from KC101.com.
First of all, "I envy you" for visiting Korea in January, although it might be a bit cold just as George mentioned it before.
Where are you staying? at friend's house? guest house? Hotel? motel?
If you pay more than 50,000원 ($60) per night, you are actually over paying... just keep in that mind.

Okay, about your question - "how much money I should bring for shopping and occasionally eating out?"
How many clothes are you going to buy??? :P :P 하하~~ If you buy clothes in 명동 Myung-dong, it will normally cost you 30,000원 ($35-40)for each item. But... it all depends on what kind of item you are buying though.
Just think like this - for T-shirt, it could cost 2-30,000
For pants and jacket, it could cost 50,000
For the brand, I don't know...

Ah, about "eating out?" Normally... it will cost 5-6,000원 ($5) for a regular meal.
If you have 10,000원 ($10), actually you can try a good Korean meal at many restaurants.
That's all I can say...

You just made me to visit Korea.
Ah~~ one of my lessons actually talks about "HOW TO MAKE A GOOD DEAL WHILE SHOPPING IN KOREA"
I teach some of useful phrases (I call them "magic phrases").
If you are interested in those phrases, please seek after "Absolute Beginner Season 2 Lesson #19", which will be published on 8th of November 2010.
That lesson could make you save some bucks in January.
cheers,

Tim 8)
ps. shopping in Korea is SO MUCH FUN! Visit 명동 Myung-Dong at night (after 12:00am) and shop all night long! There will be tons of people shopping and eating, shopping and eating....

ㅋㅋㅋ the dude did not ask about the cost of accomodations -- just about how much for shopping and 'eating out' -- these items are so subjective (subject to how much money one has) that nobody can answer except the person asking the question. And we have the following 속담 "If you have to ask 'how much' it's too expensive."

Did you get that bro? -- what you spend on necessities, souvenirs, and eating out, might be about three thousand bucks on my budget -- but that is entirely subjective -- for a backpacking tourist it might be $1500 -- for a rich person it might be three-hundred thousand.. anyway life is short -- bring what you can - spend what you can - be happy.

So, $500 to $1000 would be enough? I hope so. That's about all I can afford. Haha

It's enough if you have many KOREAN friends.
I guess they must be at least more than 5 different groups.

Hello madelinehinnergardt3214 님

Hello I'm Julia.
I came back from Korea this week. I went to Korea for 12days for a holiday. I had aaaaaaaa lot of fun. lol
And I spent heaps of money. TT :? around 1,000 dollars. I didn't expect I spent money like that much.
Usually I used money for eating, drinking, and shopping. Not for the accommodation.

So it's all up to you!

Haha~~ Mayakumi,

Postby timandyou » October 29th, 2010 8:58 am

"One strike!!!"

cheers,

^^

낫다 : to be better
낳다 : to give a birth

아무래도 이 곳은 한국어를 배우는 곳이다보니... ^^;
