That's sick

상쾌하다

Ok so how new is the usage as "refreshing"? I'm not getting complete buy in from my local native reference Korean.

I can remember being confused when 'tight' gained another slang meaning years ago.

DICTIONARY LINK HERE

The use as 'refreshing' is probably older than dirt, being that this meaning is derived from Han-Ja 爽(상) =bright, clear, fresh; and 快(쾌) = happy, cheerful, pleasant.

I would bet it's at least a little older than your study of Korean, this expression I remember from the first lesson of "한국어 고급 1" (KOREAN Advanced 1) Published Oct. 1, 1999 by Manna Publishing Ministry

"매일 아침 공원을 한 바퀴 뛰고 나면 기분이 상쾌해지고 몸도 가벼워집니다." Running one lap around the park each morning is refreshing and invigorating (lit: refreshes my spirit/emotion and makes my body feel light).

I think George's explanation is more than great!

상쾌하다 is "to feel refreshing"
As George mentioned, "refreshes my spirit/emotion and makes my body feel light" is an excellent explanation.
Thank you, George~~
cheers,
