Korean given names

Postby Istanpraha » July 18th, 2010 7:53 pm

Could you please provide more information about Korean given names? There was a Culture class lesson about Korean names but that was more about Family names.
I am never sure from the sound of Korean given names if the person is male or famale.
Or what their names mean. It may be nice if you take examples from Korean actors' or pop stars' names and talk/explain about them. Looking forward to hearing from you!!:D

 Extra tip.
영훈[yeonghun] is Boy's name. Sometimes a girl has this name.
But it still sounds Boy's names due to "훈". :)

One of 영s has the meaning of "being long" and 훈 means "get enlightened".
So 영훈 can be " get enlightened deeply and steadily".

Is my guess close to yours? 영훈 님?

But there are heaps of meaning on one hangeul.

Hello George,

Postby timandyou » July 21st, 2010 12:40 am

:o

Wow~~ '영원할'과 '가르칠 (배울) '
그래서 영훈 - "영원히 배우고 교육한다!"

정말 괜찮은 이름이네요... 영훈씨.

이것도 정말 괜찮은 아이디어 같네여.

여기에 참여하는 (KoreanClass101.com) 한국어 학생들에게 그들이 원하는 뜻을 내포한 한국어 이름을 만들어서 나누어 주는 것.
어떻게 생각하세요? Julia님, George님, and Manyakumi님?

cheers,

Tim 8)
