Spelling Problem

Postby acmilan774843 » May 2nd, 2010 7:25 am

Hello, I'm having trouble spelling korean not neccessarily words but words after the main verb (without honorifics)
eg. 시작 언재? *When does it start?*

When do you put them in, and how are they spelled?
I know this might be confusing because to be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for either...

Any help would be appreciated..

Hi,

언제 시작해요? <- I think this is what you mean... 시작 is a 하다 verb. It takes a noun 시작 (start) and the verb 하다 (to do) . So, it means to do start. To start. There are lots and lots of 하다 verbs. 공부하다 (to study) 운동하다 (to exercise) etc..

Now the 하다 changes based upon the context. 시작했어요 it started 시작할 게요 I will start 시작하고 싶어요 I want to start. 시작할까? Shall we start? The great thing is that it will be the same for all the 하다 verbs, so just learn how the 하다 conjugates and it will help you a lot. I would do this by looking and understanding a lot of example sentences.

For no other purpose than to amuse myself:

어제 시작하십니까? When do you start?
언제 시작합니까? When do you/we start? / When does it start (the event).
언제 시작하니? When do you/we start? / When does it start (the event).

언제 시작하세요? When do you start?
언제 시작해요? When do you/we start? / When does it (the event) start?
언제 시작해? When do you/we start? / When does it (the event) start?

언제 시작하나요? When do/does you/we/it start(s)? (I'm wondering)
언제 시작하나? When does it start? (rhetorical or asking a social inferior)

시작이 언제입니까? When does it (the event) start?
시자이 언제니? When does it (the event) start?
시작이 언제예요? When does it (the event) start?
시작이 언제야? When does it (the event) start?
시작이 언제인가요? When does it (the event) start?
시작이 언제인가? When does it (the event) start?
시작이 언제죠? When does (did you/they say) it (the event) starts?
시작이 언제지? When does (did you/they say) it (the event) starts?

This could go on all night... there must be at least 1000 ways to express subtle variations of any idea... and there are at least 10 ways for a man to refer to his wife in Korean. ugh
