질문이 있습니다.-외국인 친구 vs 외국 친구

Postby pan08257949 » August 30th, 2010 4:36 am

~~습니다 direct experience or plain description 느꼈습니다 I/he felt. It was felt.

~~답니다 narrative style 느꼈답니다 (we know, as you know, they say) I/he felt. It was felt.

[어미] 1. 합쇼할 자리에 쓰여, 화자가 이미 알고 있는 것을 객관화하여 청자에게 일러 줌을 나타내는 종결 어미...
2. ‘-다고 합니다’가 줄어든 말.

근데 포스트 제목이 참 재미있고 이상하다 人이 아니면 친구로 삼을 수가 있나?

뜻의 차이는 George님께서 올려 주셨으니까, (Thank you, George!) :-)
한 가지만 덧붙이자면...

답니다 sounds a little bit feminine in case of being used for definition #1.

And..

외국 친구 can also mean "a friend living in foreign country". (He/she can be a Korean)
Literally, it means 외국(의) 친구.

외국인 친구 means just a foreigner friend.

참고로,
한국인들은 다른 나라 국적을 갖고 있어도 한국인 사이에서 태어난 사람을 모두 "한국인"이라고 생각하는 경향이 있어요.

It does make sense.
I really haven't thought about that....
Thanks,

warning: demented rambling below

I think we are on different wavelengths -- I was just making a play on words with "人" (인 - i.e. person, human), saying 'Can someone make a friend of something that isn't a human?'

So I guess ultimately I meant that 人(인) is implied by 親舊(친구) so that even without saying 외국 it must indeed be a person that one is friends with, whether that be a friend of the same or different nationality living at home or abroad... la la la la 라 라라 라 을랄라 얼랄라 although of course one could claim to be 친구 of a dog or cat or outer space alien I suppose...

and yes the other things are true but my mind was totally someplace else when I made the previous attempt at profound humor, anway

외국인 친구 - foreigner friend
외국 친구 - -foreigner friend, or *friend living abroad * I would hope people use more specific language in actual conversation

외국 사는 나의 친구들,
다 어디를 간 거야?
나는 이렇게 있는데
청춘 기억저차 못 하네
밤 깊도록 혼자서 중얼거리는 이 늙다리야
