I need help to understand "할" when is before 시간

Postby m.castillo_226382 » July 4th, 2014 7:11 am

Hello there !

I wanted to translate some lyrics and i don't understand the use of :

너와 함께 --->"할 시간"

I investigated and i saw that 할 is a verb stem that means doing, and also is a verb stem to use it in future tense, really i'm so confused because i don't find a grammar rule that says something about the use of 할 and why can modify 시간 or if have some function on that word...

I investigated as much as I could, and i found this sentence, that made me so confused too:

인생은 너무 짧아 행복"할"시간도 부족하다.

and i also saw another particle that have the same effect than 할

it was... 줄 <--- this is a verb stem??

i want to know if this particles have a important place on the korean grammar as a topic, and i want to know all the possible uses with both of these.

I hope that you can help me ! Thank you so much!

Hi there,

I can totally see how hard you tried to understand the use of 할.
Nice work!

-ㄹ gives the meaning of future as in -할
-ㄴ gives the meaning of past as in -한

Examples:

1. 인생은 너무 짧아 행복 할 시간도 부족하다. "Life is so short to be anything but happy." It literally means that there is not enough time even to be happy.
2. 오늘은 행복 한 하루였다. "Today was a happy day."

Same applies for -줄.

Examples:

1. 이 책은 내가 줄 책이다. "This is a book that I will give."
2. 이 책은 내가 준 책이다. "This is a book that I gave."

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Claire

#‎talc‬
Talc is used in the production of the materials that are widely used in the building interiors such as base content paints in wall coatings. Other areas that utilize talc to a great extent are organic agriculture, food industry, cosmetics, and hygiene products such as baby powder and detergent powder.
Talc is also used as an anti-stick coating agent in a number of popular food products and processes including chewing gum, boiled sweets, cured meats, and for rice polishing. In olive oil production, it increases yield and improves the clarity of the oil.
