INTRODUCTION
Brandon: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Korean learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native speaker. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
GRAMMAR POINT
Brandon: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question “Can you eat Korean food?” In Korean this is
Kyejin: 한국음식을 먹을 수 있습니까? (Hangugeumsigeul meogeul su itseumnikka?)
Brandon: The first word in the question is
Kyejin: 한국음식 (hangugeumsik)
Brandon: meaning “Korean food” in English.
Kyejin: (Slow, by syllable) 한국음식 (hangugeumsik)
Brandon: Listen again and repeat.
Kyejin: 한국음식 (hangugeumsik)

Brandon: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Kyejin: 을 (eul)
Brandon: object marking particle.
Kyejin: (Slow, by syllable) 을 (eul)
Brandon: Now repeat.

Brandon: You will hear this common question again and again throughout your studies. Master the following pattern and responses to the question “Can you eat Korean food?”

Brandon: "Yes, it's delicious.” Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
Kyejin: (Slow) 네. 맛있습니다. (Ne. Masitseumnida.)
Brandon: Let's break the first response down from the beginning. The first word:
Kyejin: 네 (ne)
Brandon: means “yes.”
Kyejin: (Slow, by syllable) 네 (ne)
Brandon: Now repeat
Kyejin: 네 (ne)

Kyejin: 맛있습니다. (Masitseumnida.)
Brandon: meaning “delicious.” or “It’s delicious.”
Kyejin: (Slow, by syllable) 맛있습니다. Masitseumnida.)
Brandon: Now repeat.

Brandon: Listen to the speaker say, “Yes, it's delicious.,” and then repeat.

Brandon: To expand on the pattern, replace “It’s delicious” with “I like it very much.”

Brandon: I like it very much.

(regular) 매우 좋아합니다. (Maeu joahamnida.)
Brandon: Listen to the phrase again, this time with “I like it very much”
Kyejin: 네. 매우 좋아합니다. (Ne. Maeu joahamnida.)
Brandon: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace “It’s delicious” with “I like it very much”. Say “Yes, I like it very much.”

Kyejin: 네. 매우 좋아합니다. (Ne. Maeu joahamnida.)
Brandon: To use a different phrase, first replace “I like it very much.” with “It’s healthy.”
Kyejin: 몸에 좋습니다. (Mome joseumnida.)
Brandon: It’s healthy.

Brandon: Listen to the phrase again, this time with “Yes, it’s healthy.’
Kyejin: 네. 몸에 좋습니다. (Ne. Mome joseumnida.)
Brandon: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace the “I like it very much.” with “It’s healthy”. Say “Yes, it’s healthy.”

Kyejin: 네. 몸에 좋습니다. (Ne. Mome joseumnida.)
Brandon: To use a different phrase, replace “It’s healthy.” with “I don’t like it that much.”
Kyejin: 별로 안 좋아합니다. (Byeollo an joahamnida.)
Brandon: I don’t like it that much.
Kyejin: (slow) 별로 안 좋아합니다. (Byeollo an joahamnida.)
(regular) 별로 안 좋아합니다. (Byeollo an joahamnida.)
Brandon: Listen to the phrase again, this time with “I don’t like it that much’ In this case, it sounds more natural to say ‘No’ at the beginning of the sentence.
Kyejin: 아니요. 별로 안 좋아합니다. (Aniyo, byeollo an joahamnida.)
Brandon: It mostly stays the same. Simply replace “It’s healthy.” with “I don’t like it that much.” Say “I don’t like it that much.”

Kyejin: 별로에요.
(Byeolloeyo.)
Brandon: To say "No, I cannot eat it." to this question, just say:
Kyejin: 아니요. 먹을 수 없습니다. (Aniyo. Meogeul su eopseumnida.)
Brandon: It means ‘No, I cannot.’ in English. Let's hear it slowly

Kyejin: (slowly) 아니요. 먹을 수 없습니다. (Aniyo. Meogeul su eopseumnida.)
Brandon: And one more time at normal speed. Let’s listen to the question and the answer together.
