Lesson Transcript

Do you know how to talk about what you've done in Korean?
Welcome to Three Step Korean Practice by KoreanClass101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to talk about what you've done.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
어떤 카페로 갈까? 영화관 옆에 있는 카페에 가 본 적 있어?
Eotteon kapero galkka? Yeonghwagwan yeope inneun kapee ga bon jeok isseo?
Which café should we go to? Have you ever been to the one next to the movie theater?
아니, 아직 가 본 적 없어. 너는 가봤어?
Ani, ajik ga bon jeok eopseo. Neoneun gabwasseo?
No, I haven't been there yet. Have you?
In this dialogue, the sentence 영화관 옆에 있는 카페에 가 본 적 있어? (Yeonghwagwan yeope inneun kapee ga bon jeok isseo?) is used to ask whether someone has ever done something. In this case, that is "having been to the cafe next to the movie theater."
The verb of this sentence is “가다”, whose stem ends inㅏ(a), so you add 아. 가 + 아 becomes 가아, but in Korean, we combine identical vowels for smoother pronunciation. So 가 + 아 becomes simply 가. Then, you add “보다” to show experience:가 보다 then change it to past form, 가 본 적 있어.
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson.
