Lesson Transcript

Hi, everybody!
Do you know how to say “Bye” in Korean? In this lesson, you'll learn three parting expressions in Korean.
Let’s start with the easiest one.
안녕히 가세요.
[slowly] 안녕히 가세요.
This means "Goodbye" in Korean, or literally "Go in peace."
In Korean, it's important to know who's staying and who's going when you say "bye." If the other person is going somewhere, you can use this expression. You can also use this when both of you are going somewhere. This phrase literally means "be at peace" or "go in peace."
If you're going somewhere and the other person is staying, you need to use a different phrase.
안녕히 계세요.
[slowly] 안녕히 계세요.
This means "Goodbye" in Korean. It literally means "Stay in peace."
You can use this expression when you're leaving and the other person is staying.
If you want to sound more casual, here's a phrase for you.
안녕.
[slowly] 안녕.
This means "Bye" in Korean.
This phrase is equivalent to saying something casual, such as "see ya!" or "peace!" in English.
Let's wrap up this lesson by recapping what you've learned. Listen to the words and repeat after me.
