| Gyeong-eun: Can you make a guess? 맞춰 보세요(Matchwo boseyo). |
| Hyunwoo: Well actually I think I know where we are. This bus stop and the building behind it are so familiar to me. |
| Gyeong-eun: 와, 진짜요? |
| Hyunwoo: Yeah. We are in Gangnam. Aren’t we? 우리 강남에 있는거 아니에요(Uri gangname inneungeo anieyo)? |
| Gyeong-eun: 딩동댕~ 맞아요(majayo). |
| Hyunwoo: And I go to this very McDonald’s quite often myself. 여기에 있는 이 맥도날드에 정말 자주 가요(Yeogie inneun i maekdonaldeue jeongmal jaju gayo). |
| Gyeong-eun: Like how often? |
| Hyunwoo: About once every two months. |
| Gyeong-eun: Do you think that’s often? |
| Hyunwoo: I mean I don’t go to Gangnam every day and there is hundreds of places to go in Gangnam. So if I go to the same McDonald’s once every two months, that’s very frequent. 안 그래요? |
| Gyeong-eun: Yeah I guess you are right. So, do you like hamburgers? 햄버거 좋아하세요(Haembeogeo joahaseyo)? |
| Hyunwoo: Well, not particularly. 특별히 좋아하는 것은 아니에요(Teukbyeolhi joahaneun geoseun anieyo). But I do go to McDonald’s sometimes because it’s convenient. How about yourself, 경은씨? 햄버거 좋아하세요(Haembeogeo joahaseyo)? |
| Gyeong-eun: 네, 진짜 좋아해요(Ne, jinjja joahaeyo). 패스트푸드는 다 좋아해요(Paeseuteupudeuneun da joahaeyo). |
| Hyunwoo: You like all kinds of fast food. Then, how do you stay so slim and healthy? |
| Gyeong-eun: I don’t only eat fast food. 몸에 좋은 음식도 좋아해요(Mome joeun eumsikdo joahaeyo). |
| Hyunwoo: Aha so you like foods that are good for your body too. Me too. So 경은씨, when you feel like having some hamburger, how do you say that to your friends? How do you say, do you want to go and eat some hamburgers? |
| Gyeong-eun: 햄버거 먹으러 갈래(Haembeogeo meogeureo gallae)? |
| Hyunwoo: Or let’s go and eat some hamburgers. |
| Gyeong-eun: 햄버거 먹으러 가자(Haembeogeo meogeureo gaja). |
| Hyunwoo: Okay. And when you go to 맥도날드, 버거킹 or 파파이스, do you just eat a hamburger? 햄버거 하나만 먹어요(Haembeogeo hanaman meogeoyo)? |
| Gyeong-eun: Of course not. 당연히 아니죠(Dangyeonhi anijyo). I always order the set meal. 항상 세트 메뉴를 시켜요(Hangsang seteu menyureul sikyeo). |
| Hyunwoo: Me too. It’s cheaper. |
| Gyeong-eun: So, 지금 햄버거 먹으러 갈래요(Jigeum haembeogeo meogeureo gallaeyo)? |
| Hyunwoo: No. I actually ate already before you came. |
| Gyeong-eun: 네? You didn’t wait for me. I am hungry. 저 진짜 배고픈데(Jeo jinjja baegopeunde)… |
| Hyunwoo: I can go with you. You know, now that you just mentioned being hungry, I think a lot of people go to McDonald because they can get a refill for their cola. |
| Gyeong-eun: 네, 맞아요. 리필 할 수 있어요(Ripil hal su isseoyo). |
| Hyunwoo: Can you say the word again? |
| Gyeong-eun: 리-필(Ri-pil). 리필 할 수 있어요(Ripil hal su isseoyo). |
| Hyunwoo: You can refill. Then, what can our listeners say to the clerk when they want to refill? |
| Gyeong-eun: 콜라 리필해 주세요(Kolla ripilhae juseyo). |
| Hyunwoo: Please refill my cola. |
| Gyeong-eun: 콜-라 리-필-해- 주-세-요(kol-la-ri-pil-hae-ju-se-yo). |
| Hyunwoo: And I’ve noticed in some countries, you have to pay some money if you want ketchup and in some other countries, you have to ask for it. Otherwise, you won’t receive it. |
| Gyeong-eun: 아, 정말요(A, jeongmaryo)? |
| Hyunwoo: 네. But in Korea, they just give you some ketchup even if you don’t ask or even if you don’t want to, right? |
| Gyeong-eun: Yeah. I like to have ketchup with my French Fries. |
| Hyunwoo: Oh, there you go. French fries. It’s the next word I want you to introduce. How do you say French Fries in Korean? |
| Gyeong-eun: 감자튀김(gamjatwigim). 감-자-튀-김(gam-ja-twi-gim). |
| Hyunwoo: So you are going to order a set menu and have 햄버거(haembeogeo), 콜라(kolla), and 감자튀김(gamjatwigim). |
| Gyeong-eun: And ketchup. |
| Hyunwoo: Of course but before we go in, why don’t we have a look around? |
| Gyeong-eun: Okay 좋아요. But please hurry up. I am starving. |
| Hyunwoo: Okay. Here, I see some traffic lights. |
| Gyeong-eun: 신호등(sinhodeung). 신-호-등(sin-ho-deung). |
| Hyunwoo: And also a bus stop? |
| Gyeong-eun: 버스 정류장(beoseu jeongnyujang). 버-스-정-류-장(beo-seu jeong-nyu-jang). |
| Hyunwoo: By the way, here the colors are different between this bus and this bus. What’s the difference? |
| Gyeong-eun: This one is a normal bus and this one is a 좌석버스(jwaseokbeosu). |
| Hyunwoo: Right. Literally a seat bus. |
| Gyeong-eun: Yes 좌석(jwaseok) means seat, and 좌석버스(jwaseokbeosu)es have more seats, and more comfortable seats too. |
| Hyunwoo: Why? |
| Gyeong-eun: Because they cover farther distances. |
| Hyunwoo: Right. 아, 경은씨, you know what, I just remembered an important appointment. I got to go now. I will take a bus right here. So go ahead and enjoy your hamburger please. |
| Gyeong-eun: Me, alone? 혼자서요(Honjaseoyo)? 저 혼자서 햄버거 못 먹어요(Jeo honjaseo haembeogeo mot meogeoyo). |
| Hyunwoo: I am sure you can and I am sorry. I apologize. I will eat with you next time. 다음에 같이 먹어요, 네(Daeume gachi meogeoyo, ne)? |
