| Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for describing something using an adjective. |
| PATTERN |
| Eric: For example, |
| Eric: "The book is boring." |
| Lyn: 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) |
| Lyn: [slow] 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) |
| Eric: The pattern for describing something using an adjective has 3 elements. First, a phrase, "that book." |
| Lyn: 그 책 (geu chaek). |
| Eric: Second, a topic marking particle. |
| Lyn: 은 (eun). |
| Eric: Third, an adjective, "boring." |
| Lyn: 지루해요 (jiruhaeyo). |
| Eric: Altogether, we have.. "The book is boring." |
| Lyn: 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) [slow] 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) [normal] 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) |
| Eric: To be polite in Korean, you can end a sentence with the sentence ending... |
| Lyn: 요 (yo) |
| Eric: But when you use this, make sure to check how the verb-stem ends. If the last syllable of the verb-stem has a vowel which has... |
| Lyn: ㅏ (a) OR ㅗ (o) |
| Eric: … just add… |
| Lyn: 요 (yo) |
| Eric: after the verb-stem and say… |
| Lyn: 만나요 (mannayo). |
| Eric: If the last syllable of the verb-stem doesn't have |
| Lyn: ㅏ (a) or ㅗ (o)... |
| Eric: you need to add one syllable between the verb-stem and the sentence-ending, which is… |
| Lyn: 어 (eo) |
| Eric: So together, you can say… |
| Lyn: 먹어요 (meogeoyo). 먹 (meok) |
| Eric: And there’s one more. Lyn, can you explain more? |
| Lyn: If the verb is 하다 (hada), for example, 공부하다 (gongbuhada), replace 하 (ha) with 해 (hae) and add 요 (yo) as in 공부해요 (gongbuhaeyo). |
| Lyn: 그 책은 지루해요. (geu chaegeun jiruhaeyo.) |
| Eric: So remember to check the verb-stem when you use the sentence-ending particle... |

| Eric: Here is another example meaning, "The tree is small." First, a phrase, "that tree." |
| Lyn: 그 나무 (geu namu). |
| Eric: Second, a topic marking particle. |
| Lyn: 는 (neun). |
| Eric: Third, an adjective, "small." |
| Lyn: 작아요 (jagayo). |
| Eric: Altogether we have.. |
| Lyn: 그 나무는 작아요. (geu namuneun jagayo.) [slow] 그 나무는 작아요. (geu namuneun jagayo.) [normal] 그 나무는 작아요. (geu namuneun jagayo.) |

| Eric: How do you say - "That apple is delicious." To give you a hint, "delicious" in Korean is.. |
