Jaehwi: And I'm Jaehwi. |
Dana: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 34 - Comparing Similar Objects. |
Dana: In this lesson, you'll learn a sentence pattern for comparing two similar objects. |
PATTERN |
Dana: For example... |

Jaehwi: [slow] 그 남자는 누나만큼 똑똑해요. (geu namjaneun nunamankeum ttokttokhaeyo) |
Dana: The pattern for comparing two similar objects has 4 elements. First, the demonstrative pronoun. In this case, it’s "that." |
Jaehwi: 그 (geu). |
Dana: Second, there’s the noun plus the topic marking particle… |
Jaehwi: 는 (neun). |
Jaehwi: 남자는 (namjaneun). |
Dana: Third, the noun “older sister,” and the bound noun “as much as”. |

You will follow up with the object of comparison, usually a noun with a topic marking particle attached. Afterward, you include the second object for comparison, a noun, followed by the comparative bound noun… |
Jaehwi: 만큼 (mankeum) “as much as” |
Dana: then the adjective used for comparison and the sentence ending. |
