INTRODUCTION |
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric. |
Lyn: And I'm Lyn. |
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 3. Using the Present Continuous. |
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for letting others know what someone is doing. |
PATTERN |
Eric: For example, |
Eric: "I am hanging out at home." |
Lyn: 집에서 놀고 있어요. (jibeseo nolgo isseoyo.) |
Lyn: [slow] 집에서 놀고 있어요. (jibeseo nolgo isseoyo.) |
Eric: The pattern for letting others know what someone is doing has 4 elements. First, a noun, "home." |
Lyn: 집 (jip). |
Eric: Second, a location marking particle, "in", "at." |
Lyn: 에서 (eseo). |
Eric: Third, a verb-stem "to play." |
Lyn: 놀- (nol). |
Eric: And last, a phrase meaning "in the middle of doing something." |
Lyn: 고 있어요 (go isseoyo). |
Eric: Altogether, we have... "I am hanging out at home." |
Lyn: 집에서 놀고 있어요. (jibeseo nolgo isseoyo.) |
[slow] 집에서 놀고 있어요. (jibeseo nolgo isseoyo.) [normal] 집에서 놀고 있어요. (jibeseo nolgo isseoyo.) |
