| Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for politely asking someone to do something. |
| PATTERN |

| Eric: "Could you read this please?" |
| Lyn: 이거 좀 읽어 줄래요? (igeo jom ilgeo jullaeyo?) |
| Lyn: [slow] 이거 좀 읽어 줄래요? (igeo jom ilgeo jullaeyo?) |
| Eric: The pattern for politely asking someone to do something has 4 elements. First, the proper noun, "this." |
| Lyn: 이거 (igeo). |
| Eric: Second, the adverb. |
| Lyn: 좀 (jom). |
| Eric: This adverb makes your request more polite. Third, the verb stem, "to read." |
| Lyn: 읽 (ik). |
| Eric: And last, the phrase "could you?" |
| Lyn: 어 줄래요 (eo jullaeyo). |
| Eric: Altogether, we have... "Could you read this please?" |
| Lyn: 이거 좀 읽어 줄래요? (igeo jom ilgeo jullaeyo?) [slow] 이거 좀 읽어 줄래요? (igeo jom ilgeo jullaeyo?) [normal] 이거 좀 읽어 줄래요? (igeo jom ilgeo jullaeyo?) |

| Eric: So remember that to make a polite request to someone, make sure to add the verb-stem and the phrase... |

| Eric: Here is another example meaning, "Could you find that please?" First, the proper noun, "that." |

| Eric: Second, the adverb that makes the request more polite. |

| Lyn: 찾 (chat). |
| Eric: And last, the phrase "could you?" |
