INTRODUCTION |
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric. |
Lyn: And I'm Lyn. |
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Korean Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 10. Asking About Location or Position. |
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for asking about location or position. |
PATTERN |
Eric: For example, |
Eric: "Where are we meeting?" |
Lyn: 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) |
Lyn: [slow] 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) |
Eric: The pattern for asking about location or position has 4 elements. First, a pronoun, "where." |
Lyn: 어디 (eodi). |
Eric: Second, a location marking particle. |
Lyn: 에서 (eseo). |
Eric: Third, a verb stem, "to meet." |
Lyn: 만나- (manna). |
Eric: And last, a sentence-ending particle. |
Lyn: 요 (yo). |
Eric: Altogether, we have.. "Where are we meeting?" |
Lyn: 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) [slow] 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) [normal] 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) |
Eric: First, we need the pronoun "where" to ask about location or position. Then, you need to add the location marking particle... |
Lyn: 에서 (eseo) |
Erin: Let’s hear the full sentence once again. |
Lyn: 어디에서 만나요? (eodieseo mannayo?) |
Eric: So remember that to ask about a location or position of an action, simply start your sentence with... |
Lyn: 어디에서 |
Eric: Here is another example meaning, "Where does it stop?" First, a pronoun, "where." |
Lyn: 어디 (eodi). |
Eric: Second, a location marking particle. |
Lyn: 에서 (eseo). |
Eric: Third, a verb stem, "to stop." |
Lyn: 서- (seo). |
Eric: And last, a sentence-ending particle. |
Lyn: 요 (yo). |
Eric: Altogether we have.. |
Lyn: 어디에서 서요? (eodieseo seoyo? ) [slow] 어디에서 서요? (eodieseo seoyo? ) [normal] 어디에서 서요? (eodieseo seoyo? ) |
Eric: "Where does it stop?" |
[pause] |
Lyn: 어디에서 서요? (eodieseo seoyo? ) |
Eric: How do you say - "Where do you work out?" To give you a hint, "work out" in Korean is.. |
Lyn: 운동해요 (undonghaeyo). [slow] 운동해요 (undonghaeyo). [normal] 운동해요 (undonghaeyo). |
Eric: Where do you work out? |
[pause] |
