| Debbie: Ah one usage is to list nouns, choices, options. For example, |
| Tim: 이거나, 저거나, 그거나. This or that or that one. |
| Debbie: The next usage is not to discriminate against a thing or a person. For example |
| Tim: 누구나, 무엇이나, 아무거나. Whoever, whatever, anything. |
| Debbie: Great. So where does this conversation take place? |
| Tim: 차 안에서, in the car and 휴게소에서, at a rest stop. |
| Debbie: The conversation is between |
| Tim: 팀, 수진 and 철수. |
| Debbie: Since the speakers are close friends, the speakers will be speaking informal Korean. |

| Tim: I will go and get some drinks. What do you want to drink, Su-jin? |

| Su-jin: I want either apple juice or orange juice. |

| Tim: What about you, Cheol-su? |

| Cheol-su: I feel a bit hungry. Why don't we get a bowl of black bean noodles or something? |

| Tim: Cheol-su, first you need to drink coffee or something that will help you wake up. I will get either apple juice or orange juice for you, Sujin. |

| Debbie: Ahh, a rest stop on the highway. 근데 거기서 뭐 해요? |
| Tim: 많은 운전사들이 쉬는 공간이지요. It’s a place where drivers can take a break from a long drive. |
| Debbie: Ah, so drivers can simply stop by any rest area to rest? |
| Tim: 예, 맞아요. 심지어 거기에는 다양한 음식들 various types of food, 과자들 snacks, 음료수 drinks, 그리고 아름다운 한국의 광경을 beautiful sceneries 볼 수 있는 장소를 제공해 주기도 합니다 are provided. |
| Debbie: 그럼 한국에는 고속도로 휴게소가 많아요? Are there many rest stops on the highway in Korea? |
| Tim: 예, 많지요. Ah ha! I have a great idea. Let’s introduce some rest areas that are worth stopping by when traveling in Korea by car. |
| Debbie: 좋아요. 팀 리포터가 맛있는 음식으로 유명한 고속도로 휴게소에 나가 있습니다. Our reporter Tim is visiting a rest stop that is famous for their delicious food. 연결해 보겠습니다. 팀 리포터. |
| Tim: 네, 여기는 경부선에 위치한 경주 휴게소입니다. I am at the Gyeongju Rest Stop that is located along the Gyeongbu Expressway. |
| Debbie: 팀 리포터, 지금 무엇을 먹고 있지요? What are you eating right now? |
| Tim: 네, 지금 그 유명한 손짜장을 먹고 있습니다. I am enjoying a famous traditional Korean dish called black bean noodles at 경주 휴게소. |
| Debbie: 맛은 어떤가요? How’s the taste? |
| Tim: 맛이요? Bravo! |
| Debbie: 그럼 이제 마지막으로 and finally 독특함으로 유명한 고속도로 휴게소로 가 보겠습니다. We will take you to a rest stop that is known for being unique. 연결해 보겠습니다. 팀 리포터. |
| Tim: 네, 여기는 중앙선에 위치한 단양 휴게소입니다. I am at the Danyang Rest Stop that is located along the Jungang Expressway. |
| Debbie: 팀 리포터, 뭐가 특별하지요? So Tim, what makes this rest stop so unique? |
| Tim: 네, 우와 여긴 정말 아담합니다. It’s very neat and cozy here. 여기에는 정말 아름다운 산책로가 있군요. 감동입니다. There is a very beautiful trail that is surrounded by gardens. I am so moved. |

| VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE |
| Debbie: Let’s have a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first word is |
| Tim: 상관없다 |
| Debbie: It doesn’t matter, I don’t care or I don’t mind. |
| Tim: Yes let’s break the word down. |
| Debbie: Okay. 상관 is a noun that means correlation, connection or relation. |
| Tim: And 없다 means there is not. So 상관없다 literally means there is no connection. |
| Debbie: Yes which also means I don’t care or it doesn’t matter. |
| Tim: 예. 그럼 예문을 볼까요? Here is an example sentence. 팀이 오든지 말든지 상관없어요. |
| Debbie: Ah which means it doesn’t matter whether Tim comes or not. |
| Tim: Umm… |
| Debbie: Ah we learned the expression 든지 말든지 whether A does something or not in Lower Intermediate, Season 2, Lesson 2. |
| Tim: 예, 맞아요. Good memory. Okay the next word is |
| Debbie: 중에서 meaning between, among or out of. For example |
| Tim: 둘 중에서. Between two. For example, 이 둘 중에서 골라 봐. Choose one between these two. |
| Debbie: What about out of ten items? |
| Tim: 열 개 줄에서. Out of ten items, for example 열 개 중에서 하나만 고르세요. |
| Debbie: Ah which means please choose only one item out of these 10 items. |
| Tim: Umm. |
| Debbie: Thank you Tim. Now let’s move on to the lesson focus. |

| Debbie: Throughout this lesson, we will learn about the two main usages of noun plus 이나. First, let’s learn about the conjugation rule of noun plus 이나. |
| Tim: Umm the rule is very simple. If the noun ends in a vowel, then attach 나 for example 바다나, 주스나, 버스나 and et cetera. |
| Debbie: On the other hand, if the noun ends in a consonant, then attach 이나. For example 산이나, 물이나, 귤이나, et cetera. |
| Tim: 자, 그럼 이나의 두 가지 용법에 대해서 알아 봐요. Let’s have a look at the two usages of 이나. |
| Debbie: 좋아요. One way you can use 나 or 이나 is when you list nouns choices or options. |
| Tim: 예, 맞아요. For example, 사과나 오렌지나 파인애플이나 an apple, an orange or a pineapple. Debbie씨, 우리 함께 문장을 만들어 볼까요? Let’s make some sample sentences. |
| Debbie: 좋아요. I will go first. |
| Tim: Umm. |
| Debbie: 팀은 피자나 햄버거나 라면이나 모두 다 좋아합니다. Tim likes all of these kinds of foods pizzas, hamburgers or noodles. |
| Tim: 맞아요. 저는 정말 피자나 햄버거나 라면이나 모두 다 좋아합니다. Okay it’s my turn. 데비는 산이나 바다나 도시나 모두 좋아합니다. Debbie likes all of these places, the mountains, the sea, or the cities. |
| Debbie: 예. 저는 정말 산이나 바다나 도시나 다 좋아해요. 음...근데요 팀씨? |
| Tim: 예, 데비씨. |
| Debbie: Can we replace 이나 with 이든지? |
| Tim: Yes you can. Both sentences 팀은 피자나 햄버거나 라면이나 모두 다 좋아합니다. and 팀은 피자든지 햄버거든지 라면이든지 모두 다 좋아합니다. mean the same thing. |
| Debbie: Both sentences 저는 산이나 바다나 도시나 모두 좋아합니다. and 저는 산이든지 바다든지 도시든지 모두 좋아합니다. mean the same. |
| Tim: Yes 예, 맞아요. Let’s take a look at how you can use this another way. |
| Debbie: 좋아요. The second usage of 이나 is used when you don’t discriminate against things, people, places et cetera. Some common words associated with this would be whatever, anything, everything, whoever, anyone, everyone, wherever, anywhere, everywhere, et cetera. |
| Tim: 예, 맞아요. For example, 누구 who plus 나 becomes 누구나, whoever or anyone. Here is an example sentence. 한국어는 누구나 배울 수 있습니다. Anyone can learn Korean. |
| Debbie: 저도 예문 있어요. 그는 무엇이나 다 잘 해요. He can do anything well. |
| Tim: 저도 하나 더 있어요. I have one more. 한국어는 어디서나 공부할 수 있어요. You can study Korean anywhere. |
| Debbie: 예, 맞아요. 한국어는 언제나 whenever 어디서나 wherever 누구나 whoever 쉽게 공부할 수 있어요. can easily study Korean. |
| Tim: What a good example sentence. |
