Jaehwi: Hi everyone. Welcome back to Korean Weekly Words. I am Jaehwi and let’s see what we have for this week. This week’s theme is furniture. |
Sofa. I didn’t say it in Korean 소파 (sopa) which means “sofa.” With that word, you can say 저는 소파에서 낮잠 자는 것을 좋아합니다. (Jeoneun sopaeseo natjam janeun geoseul joahamnida.) which means “I like taking a nap on the sofa.” |
Okay next we have 의자 (uija) which means “chair.” With that word, you can say 몸무게가 늘어서 의자를 부쉈습니다. (Mommugega neureoseo uijareul buswotsseumnida.) which means “I gained weight and I broke a chair.” and that’s true. That just happened to me two weeks ago and I sat on the chair and it just broke. |
Next we have 책장 (chaekjang) which means “bookshelf.” With that word, you can say 책을 좋아하는 조카에게 책장을 선물했습니다. (Chaegeul joahaneun jokaege chaekjangeul seonmulhaetsseumnida.) which means “To my nephew who likes reading books, I gave a bookshelf as a gift.” |
침대 (chimdae) which means “bed.” You know 침 (chim) is the word meaning “sleeping” and 대 (dae) means something like “a place.” So it means a place where you sleep. With that word, you can say 저는 침대가 없어도 잘 수 있습니다. (Jeoneun chimdaega eopseodo jal su itsseumnida.) which means “I can sleep even without a bed.” Yeah I can just sleep on the floor yeah. |
Next we have 식탁 (siktak) which means “table” or “dining table.” With that word, you can say 식탁 위에 맛있는 김치찌개가 있습니다. (Siktak wie masinneun gimchijjigaega itsseumnida.) which means “There is a delicious kimchi soup on the dining table.” |
And okay, that’s all for this week. I will see you next time. 다음 시간에 뵙겠습니다. (Daeum sigane boepgetsseumnida.) 안녕히 계세요. (Annyeonghi gyeseyo.) |
