| Seol: Well, he doesn't know the basics of dating. |
| Keith: What are the basics? I don't know the basics either. |
| Seol: It's kind of the manners and etiquette. What do you expect from a date? You should eat something and you should do something fun! You should be prepared for the dating. |
| Keith: And those are the basics? |
| Seol: Yeah, sure. |
| Keith: Well, just like me on a lot of dates, this guy, he doesn't have a lot going for him over here? By the way, what kind of place is 일산? Here the guy, he suggested that they should go to 일산 Lake Park? Was that a good choice? |
| Seol: Yeah. Actually it's a very good choice in my opinion. 일산 is a city in the outskirts of 서울, and there's a big lake there, and there's a huge park around the lake, and it's really beautiful. |
| Keith: Right, and I hear there's a lot of nice cafes and restaurants and a lot of couples go there too. So it's actually a nice choice, but going to 일산, it takes some time, actually. |
| Seol: Yeah, so you've got to think of spending at least an hour and a half to go there. |
| Keith: Right. If you're in Seoul, that is. |
| Seol: Right. |
| Keith: So if you have a date coming up this weekend, what's a good place that they could take them? |

| Seol: Yeah. 예 means in advance, and 매 means to buy. 예 매. 예매. |
| Keith: So together, you buy in advance. What if you're just making a reservation? What's that called? |
| Seol: 예약. |
| Keith: And the verb is? |
| Seol: 예약하다 |
| Keith: Right so if you're going to reserve movie tickets, and you should do at least one of the two, if you're going to watch a movie on the weekend. 예약, to reserve or 예매, to buy in advance. Ok. What's our next word? |

| Keith: Lake. |
| Seol: I love this word. I like the sound of this word. |
| Keith: Are there a lot of lakes in Korea? |
| Seol: Not too many, but a few dozens of them, small and big. And I think 일산 Lake Park, 일산 호수 공원, is the most famous lake park in Korea. |
| Keith: Actually, I think the most famous lake is in North Korea. |
| Seol: Ah! You mean, 백두산 천지. |
| Keith: That's right. 백두산 is the mountain that borders North Korea and China, and on top of that, there's a crater lake. It's really, really beautiful. I've seen pictures, but I've never gone there. |
| Seol: Me, neither. |
| Keith: But you can actually go there, if you want to, but you've got to go from the China side. |
| Seol: My father went there and he said it's really beautiful. |
| Keith: Yeah. I definitely want to go there because that's where the origin of Korean people are. That's our roots. |

| Keith: 'I should have', 'I regret that I didn't.' Of course, this is a way to express regret. |
| Seol: The last part, 그랬다 means "it was so" or "I did it." So literally, you're saying "I did A while I could have done B." |
| Keith: Ok. Well, how is this constructed in a sentence? |
| Seol: Verb stem plus -ㄹ/을 걸 그랬다 |
| Keith: Ok. So let's take an example. How about the verb, 말하다, 'to say,' 'to tell'? |
| Seol: You need 말하 as the verb stem, if you add ㄹ 걸 그랬다 at the end, so it becomes 말할 걸 그랬다 |
| Keith: "I should have said it." Or "I should have told it." So how did it come out in this dialogue then? |
| Seol: 성철 said 지하철 타고 올 걸 그랬어요. |
| Keith: I should have taken the subway. And of course, expressing regret. He did something else, but he should have taken the subway. What else should he have done? |
| Seol: 예매할 걸 그랬어요... |
| Keith: I should have bought the tickets in advance. |
| Seol: Yeah. |
| Keith: Alright, well what else? |
| Seol: He also said, 차를 가지고 올 걸 그랬어요. |
| Keith: I should have brought my car. And finally? |
| Seol: 밥을 안 먹고 올 걸 그랬어요... |
| Keith: I should have not eaten before coming here. A lot of regret. But we have a sample sentence for our listeners so that they don't regret. What should our listeners not say? |

| Keith: "I should have studied harder." |

| Keith: “I should have been more careful." Or "I regret not being careful." |
