Question about KWotD (25 Nov)

Postby xanuwan_227357 » November 26th, 2014 11:17 am

Hello whoever decides to read this.

I recently got back to this site and decided to have a look at the Korean Words of the Day. Specifically, I wanted to figure out how the example sentences 'tick' and see if I could translate them for myself.
However, the example sentence 여동생을 위해 공항에 갈 시간입니다 mentioned under the KWotD 가다 confused me a bit. Most of it I could figure out (I assume 갈 is a conjugation of 가다 somehow and means 'to go' in this sentence?), but I can't figure out what 위해 means, at all. The sentence seems understandable to me without this word, so it's also difficult for me to speculate about what it could mean.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Hi there,

"위해" means for:
여동생을 위해 [for my younger sister]
친구를 위해 [for a friend]

여동생을 위해 공항에 갈 시간입니다. [It is time to go to the airport for my younger sister.]

Hope all is clear now. :)

Claire
