Movie violence!

Postby JockZon » August 13th, 2007 3:25 pm

First post in this section of the forum!
I've got only ONE korean movie at home and that is Lady Vengance! One thing I wonder is why asians are so keen on movie violence. I mean there is some real slaughtering going on ^^ And also the theme about revange.

Well I am not an expert on this topic, but I would say it's rather an influence that Korean movie-makers got from western movies. Because Korean movies are becoming more and more violent not only in the stories but also in the ways that the stories are told... and I think it's because more Korean people are now used to the violence level in western movies, and movie-makers know that they're not going to impress the public audience with mediocre scenes. But that's only my logic, what do you think? But one thing I can say for sure is, that there used to be much much much less violence in older movies. T.T

I see! But many asian movies that are meant to be violent are often more violent than western-movies and like I said it's often about revenge. Maybe they got influenced by western movies and then made it even more violent?

I think you have a point there too. If you want to watch more films of that sort,

you can look for "올드보이(Old Boy)" and "복수는 나의 힘(Revenge is my power)" ^^

Yeah I know Old Boy, it's the same makers as Lady Vengance. Haven't seen it yet though.

If you've loved Lady Vengeance(친절한 금자씨), (I mean apart from it being violent and all), I am sure you will love Old Boy(올드보이) even more!!

;D

About revenge? What about horror films?
"Into the mirror" for example? Here is about it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372937/

OK. So here they are:

R-point - military horror. One of my favorite film ever http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417072/

A Tale of Two Sisters http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365376/

Cello http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475532/

The Red Shoes - the story is based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Red Shoes" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468683/
No matter how dark the night, morning always comes.

We recently finished 다모. It certainly had its share of violence and blood but not as bad as many others. I understand that it created somewhat of an anti-establishment movement in Korea. Any thoughts?
As far as horror goes, I've never been a fan of the genre. I think most of the appeal of horror is in the suspense and nowadays that has been replaced with over-the-top gore, not really my thing, certainly not entertaining.

I agree. Blood horror isn't as much fun as the old psych-horror where you get scared from music and conclusions.

Korean Horror really isn't "horror"....when a Korean movie is classified as horror what it means is "There is a really cute young tiny Korean girl (usually younger than 8 ) who is going to die in a violent fashion.

I stopped watching the K-horror after every single one did that to me. I really like the funny drama ie. Sangdoo lets go to school, Super Rookie, My name is Sam-Soon", "Attic Cat", "Full House", wow there are so many more I have forgotten the titles to.

Korean drama's are great. I mentioned this on another post but if you're interested in downloading drama's, check out d-addicts.com. Not only for Korean dramas, but dramas from Asia in general.

Right now I'm watching 모래시계 (Sandglass). OLD SCHOOL Drama's baby. 8)
