Death and Dying

Postby trutherous » June 15th, 2011 9:22 am

Ok -- everybody's favorite topic, death and dying vocabulary:

I was just re-watching a favorite Korean drama when I heart the expression

"~는 운명하신 것 같아" - seems like ~ has died (which I could understand from the context)

Anyway I thought 'gee there are a lot of ways to say someone dies/dies' so I thought I would post a few and invite anyone to add to the list:

죽었다 - He died.
사망했다 - He died - his death occurred
목숨을 잃었다 - He died - he lost his life
숨을 거두셨다 - He died - he breathed his last
돌아가셨다 - He died - he passed away
세상을 떠났다 - He died - he left the world
저 세상에 갂다 - He died - he went to the great beyond

a couple of others

전사했다 - He died in battle
옥사했다 - He died in prison

Hi trutherous,

You must be a really good student!

Know very well about the words. What you have said are really good and people actually use them!

Keep up with it ;)
