today's word/sentence

Postby jaekim861780 » March 13th, 2013 4:05 pm

I saw today's sentence in the email - "중국은 지구상에서 가장 인구가 많은 나라입니다." This was translated as "China is the largest country on Earth by population." I see that "가장" means "most" according to Google.

Would it make sense to say "중국은 지구상에서 인구가 가장 많은 나라입니다"? How about "중국은 지구상에서 인구가 제일 많은 나라입니다"?

It just seemed odd to see the words in this order - 가장 인구가 많은. I'm trying to increase my Korean level bit by bit ... :)

Hi jaekim861780,

Thanks for asking.
"China is the largest country on Earth by population."
This was translated as Korean "중국은 지구상에서 인구가 가장 많은 나라입니다"or "중국은 지구상에서 인구가 제일 많은 나라입니다"
Two sentences, the meaning is the same.
가장 ,제일 is same meaning.
가장, 제일 is decorates the population.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you!
