Tell me about Koren given names

Postby Istanpraha » July 19th, 2010 3:41 am

Could you please provide more information about Korean given names? There was a Culture class lesson about Korean names but that was more about Family names.
I am never sure from the sound of Korean given names if the person is male or famale.
Or what their names mean. It may be nice if you take examples from Korean actors' or pop stars' names and talk/explain about them. Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Hello Istanpraha,

:o

"방가 방가 Istanpraha,"
This is Tim.

First, the Korean names have been changed a lot!
In old age, it was quite clear to distingish male's and female's name. But, these days it is not. I am not quite sure how to explain it to you.

Okay, here is my answer.
The meaning of Korean name is very hard to figure out since most names come from the Chinese characters. To know the meaning of names, you need to know, I have to see their Chinese characters.

(송)혜교 Hye gyo - female actress
(고)현정 Hyun Jeong - female actress
(김)태희 Tae Hee - female actress

(장)동건 Dong geon - male actor
(송)승헌 Seung Heon - male actor
(배)용준 Yong Jun - male actor

I think that's all I can say about...
In Making names, there is no rule. It's all up to parents.
Thanks,

ps. in old age, if the last letter is 자, ja, in names, the person was usually female.
cheers,
Tim
