Hi All,

I'm just starting to learn from scratch today!

Anybody want to be my buddy and help me along the way?

Cheers!

Hi,

First thing to do would be to learn Hangul 한굴 the alphabet. I didn't use this site to learn hangul so I don't know where you would find it, Julia can probably help you with that.

Once, you can read the alphabet jump into the newbie lessons.

Hi yulilgit,

So nice to see another student of Korean.

imaBALLER is right on target - you need to learn Hangul, the Korean writing system. It is of course perfectly fine to start learning words and phrases at the same time using the Romanized writing system, but if you rely on using a Latin based alphabet your pronunciation will suffer and your progress will be handicapped.

Type in 'Hangul" into the lesson search feature and you should come up with the appropriate lessons on this site. You will also find a wealth of free "Hangul" lessons on youtube but the quality of these lessons may vary greatly.

Here are a few things that I do to learn Korean:

Listen to the pronunciation of a word in the vocabulary section, and then listen for it in the dialog. This trains your brain to recognize words.

After you can easily recognize all the words in a dialog, practice sounding out the vocabulary words. Create a list of Hangul words, then practice sounding out the Hangul words while trying to remember their meanings.

After you can quickly sound out all the words, create a list of the English meanings. From the list of English meanings, say the Hangul word and to spell it in Hangul.

Always remember this: the faster you learn, the faster you forget. Leaning Hangul is a lifestyle, not something you do overnight.
