Hello!

Postby tgrabarczyk » March 12th, 2010 3:02 am

Hi,

So I have heard some good things about this site and am looking forward to giving it a try! But my question for you all is what subscription option is the best value? I don't want to spend more than I have to, but if there is a good learning advantage to going for more than the basic, I definitely would!

Thanks!

Hi tgrabarczyk. :D

I'm always happy to see another person interested in the Korean language. I hope you would share with us your interest in and motivation to learn Korean.

This site does indeed have much to offer. Whether you get a premium or basic subscription really depends on how you will make use of the services offered. Take a look at what is offered at each level and ask yourself what you are likely to actually use and what will be the most beneficial to your study of this beautiful language.

May your study always be successful -,

George, another humble student of Korean language

Thanks!!!

Well I guess I am not sure what I would be able to make best use of. Thats why I was hoping to find out what features people in the community have found most useful in their studies.

I bought a 1 year premium membership. I got a 1 year because I think I will probably only use the site for one year and then move on to more native materials. 1 year also is more economical then paying monthly, if you have made a commitment to learning Korean 1 year is probably good, if you just want to try it out monthly is probably ok.

A big reason I went for premium membership was because of the written transcripts. They have the dialogues transcribed line by line into hangul and this made it very easy for me to copy and paste these sentences into an SRS (a computer program that helps you remember). I have not been able to copy and paste from pdf files, which I think is probably an anti piracy thing and I am ok with that.

I guess it depends on how you learn and what your work flow is like. If you are listening on the train or in the car, it will be vastly different to how I study.

By the way, with a trial membership you get access to premium content so you can actually see for yourself what it offers. Personally, I wouldn't use this site if I didn't have premium access just because of the way I study.

All the best.

Thank you for the advice. I have a korean significant other, so I am very dedicated to learning the language.

But I have spent much on various books and learning aids that honestly have not helped much :( Which is why I was curious whether for double the cost if it was worth it (I am a bit nervous about the podcast method, but these forums show many people that have had success with it!)

I may try the basic and if I do not feel it is sufficient, then upgrade!

Why didn't they help much? Because, the material wasn't very good? or because it wasn't compelling enough for you to keep using it?

Well, textbooks, workbooks, and vocabulary books. So I can read/write some with a dictionary, but it has not done for listening comprehension :D

So I may have been overly harsh on them due to my high ambitions!
