I got a problem! help!

Postby KleinAng » December 27th, 2009 3:30 pm

Im very confuse here.. so anyone can tell me the difference between this two
저는 공부해요.
Im studying.

공부하는 것이 좋아?
do you like studying?

the reason im very confuse is because i thought that 공부해요 is studyING.
Now theres 공부하는 것이 which is also studying i suppose. so what is the difference?

You're taking the translation of 공부해요 as 'I'm studying' too literally. It's just declaring the action of studying in the present.

It's the same with '공부하는 것'. Adding -는 것 to the verb stem changes the action verb into a noun, so '-ing' is the most convenient way to render that in English.

More specifically, the first sentence declares that the subject is performing the act of studying. The second one makes a statement about the act of studying.
