"Newbie" or "Beginner" ?

Postby katkorean » January 29th, 2009 4:35 am

Hello everyone. I'm an absolute beginner in Korean and just getting started here on Koreanclass101. My question is, do I have to complete the Newbie series before I start with the Beginner series? Do I take them together? What's the difference between the two and what course of study do you recommend?

Thank you!

In newbie there's a lot of "phrases," i.e. you learn how to say things without going into the grammar of it, while in the beginner's series you learn the grammar. You can start directly on the beginner if you'd like. Most people prefer to start on the newbie series, but for me when I just started, I found the beginner's series the easiest, because I learn through grammar. Once I'd learned some Korean, used the newbie mainly for repetition.
