Hello. I am new to Korean and was wondering about my name. My name is Cherrell (first E sound like word "letter") and people always have problems pronouncing it. I even call myself Cheryl when speaking to English people to avoid confusion. What do you suggest in my case. Can you somehow translate that into Korean, get a different Korean name? What should I do?
Is the pronunciation of last names important?. Do people somehow find a Korean replacement for that too?

I am sorry that you are going through such confusion on your names

In case of Korean, i think it would be a bit more clarifying since we literally translate the sound into Korean.

For example for Cheryl, it would be 셰릴 while your name would be 셰렐.

You could also have Korean name if you would like using the meaning of your name.

For Koreans, people usually go there name by similar sound, Jaehyun -> Jay or so.

So it is up to you but I would not see your name to be problem!;)

Hi, may I get some help to translate my Chinese or English name to Hangul?

I tried translating 许依凤, but I get 호 의 방 . A bit awful...

Not sure if English to Hangul may work, Yvonne Koh?

I looked up your Chinese name, and I got 호의봉.
You can use it and explain which Chinese characters make up your name.
In order to keep the meaning of your name, it would be better to use your Chinese name for Koreans would understand it.

You can write your English name as 이본 "Ibon" in Korean.
There is a Korean actress named 이본 (Korean last name 이 + first name 본)
So people are familiar with this name.
