It's a stumper. Someone in another forum offered 「用過漢字寫的語言」 as a Chinese translation. It's easy to use 한글 or カタカナ to transliterate loan-words, but translating is a big challenge.

Well...
Since the Meiji Restoration in 19th century, so many Western words (scientific, technological terms...).
Instead of borrowing those words directly, Japan decided to creat new words using kanji, to translate them.

for example
自動車(In Japanese, it sounds ji-dou-sha, and ja-dong-cha in Korean) Automobile
関税(kan-zei, gwan-se) tariff
国会(kokkai, guk-kue) National Parliment
政府(sei-fu, jeong-bu) Government
法律(hou-ritsu, beob-ryul) Law
飛行機(hi-kou-ki, bi-hang-gi) Airplane
巡洋艦(jun-you-kan, sun-yang-ham) (Military) Cruiser
微分(bi-bun, mi-bun) Differential
積分(seki-bun, jeok-bun) Integral
加速度(ka-soku-do, ga-sok-do) Acceleration

Since Korea opened their port to foreign nations, and under 35 years of Japanese rules, most of modern Sino-Japanese technological terms imported into Korean vocabulary, consisting the considerable part of current Korean vocabulary until now...

'전화' is also the Korean Pronouncation of the word '電話'.

Actually, しまう is a piece of grammar I learned last year in Japanese class. With て form, it means to end up doing something or completely do something. I think by itself しまう means to put away or to finish.

Hmm. 끝낸다/버리다 mean to finish, so I suppose it's the same.

I am not familiar enough with Japanese to know but it seems to me that Korean has many more different levels of speech than Japanese. Is there a higher level of です that is used commonly like 입니다? One might not be justified making those kinds of direct comparisons but in general I don't see any big issue with it.

The honorific is higher than just regular polite speech. In Korean, 높임말. But it's used even less than です. In the conversations I've memorized, they used でございます, but they were pretty formal.

And I would say, to me, です seems more like 요 because you just add it on to a sentence, and... it becomes polite! But I'm not really sure. It might be comparable to 입니다 sometimes.
