Yet another noob question!

Postby Alexis » January 28th, 2009 7:34 am

Hello again! I have ANOTHER noob question, that I think is mainly due to my lack of studying Korean.

Anywho, I signed up to Lang-8 today, thanks to you guys! And I made a couple of very basic journal entries. One of them said this (I'm aware of spelling mistakes!):

여동생는 학생이에요 그리고 시드니 대하교에 가세요.

Anyway, a couple of people came along and said that I should have said: 대학교에 다녀요 at the end.

Can someone please tell me what 다녀요 means? I haven't come across this yet!

Thanks again, KC101!

I guess it's like "attend" in English.
unfortunately having half a set of Korean genes doesn't come w/ a language gene

yep! it's used for things that you go to often, like school or church.. those are the two things i've heard it used with the most.

다니다 is an important word. Yes it is like attend school, or church (가다 to go) is OK too, but 다니다 will get you more points for natural sounding speech. Use it to say which company you work for as well.

Plus...
다니오다 combines "attend" and "come" to mean , "I went somewhere, and came back" Kids say this when coming home from school/hogwon etc:

"디녀왔습나다"

Another typo; 다니오다 ==> 다녀오다 : went and came back, basically the other person know where you went and you can say 다녀왔습나다 when you came back.
same thing 갔다 왔습니다
I am a forever ESL student.

You can also say "다녀 오겠습니다" to say good bye. "I will attend and come back."
