I've been studying a few fairy tales to help me gain a better grasp on Korean grammar (which is very difficult, btw). Sorry for the long post, but I have a lot of questions...

Here is the translation I was given:
Once apon a time, there was a happy family- a mom, a son and a daugher.
The brother and sister didn't have a father.
So their mom made money selling rice cakes.
One day, the mom met a terribly scary tiger on the way home from a feast late at night.
The tiger said, "I won't eat you if you give me one piece of the rice cake."
The mom gave him a piece of rice cake.
He ate the rice cake deliciously and kept asking for them until they run out.
After running out of the cake, the tiger had got angry and ate the mom. He wore her clothes for a disguise and stroke her home.
The tiger was disguised as their mom but the brother and sister noticed it was a tiger. They hid on the big tree in the back yard.
The tiger couldn't climb up the tree and asked the sister how to climb up. The young and naive sister told him the secret because of sweet words.
The scared brother and sister prayed God to send a rope during the tiger was climbing up the tree.
Then a strong and new rope came down.
The brother and sister went to the heaven holding the rope.
The tiger saw it and prayed the same.
However, the rope for the tiger was a rotten one and he fell down on the way to the heaven.
The brother became the Moon and the sister who was afraid of darkness became the Sun.

EDIT: I'll ask one question at a time, because this post turned out really long. The most important question I have is:
Grammar Help: "던져주었다" - Okay, I know this means "throw and give", but how often are verbs combined like this and what would dignify for two verbs to be joined together? Other examples, "안잡아먹다", "올라오", etc. I know the meanings of the verb, I'm just confused as to why they could or should be joined together. Why not just say, "던지다" (etc.)?
