hanja via remembering the hanzi or kanji ?

I am intending to increase my knowledge of the hanja

i would like to use the Heisig method, but there is no remembering the hanja
so which would be better?
studying remembering the traditional hanzi or remembering the kanji?

which of the two would have the most overlap with hanja?
anyone who has a knowledge of kanji or hanzi and has used this to help their korean study?
