Saying goodbye when you are both leaving

Postby taurin » March 31st, 2010 3:25 pm

Hi there. I just started your program yesterday and got to the section about saying goodbye. I know there is one way to say good bye when the other person is leaving and one way when you are leaving. What do you say if, for example, you both have left a place and are going to your respective cars? In this case it seems you both are leaving. Is there a third way to say it in this case or do you use one of the previously mentioned forms?

When both parties are leaving you use the same expression for when the other party is leaving.

안녕히 가세요

You can also add 살펴 가세요 (take care/go with care) just after you say goodbye and this should be quite impressive to a Korean party coming from a non-Korean.

In the specific case of driving you can add 운전 조심해 가세요 (운전 =driving 조심해 =carefully 가세요 =going /drive carefully) which should be equally impressive to your listener.
