Do you have any favorite Korean proverbs? What are they?
Here are a few of mine:
낫 놓고 'ㄱ' 자도 모른다.
translates: (You can) lay out a sickle (but they) don't recognize even the letter 'ㄱ'
means: Ignorant - not even knowing A from B
translates: The darkest place is just under the lamp.
translates: (If you are) afraid of maggots (you) won't even make fermented bean paste.
means: If you let fear govern you nothing can be accomplished.
translates: If (they) are ignorant (then they) are bold.
means: Ignorance begets false courage - (ignorance is bliss)
translates: Dust piled (makes) a steep mountain.
means: many drops make a shower (money - saving a little at a time makes one rich)
... and here's one I made up just for fun:
그림의 떡만 먹으면 굶어 죽는다.
translates: If (you) eat only drawings of rice cake (you) starve to death.
means: If you eat only pie-in-the-sky you'll starve to death.[/b]
