Webcam recommendations?

Postby Taliana » March 19th, 2009 10:36 am

So I'm thinking of getting a webcam so that I can (maybe) make vlogs more often, I think a webcam would be more convinient than using my digicam all the time.

I have no idea at all about webcams though, so I don't know what I should be looking for or what's a good one to get. Does anyone here know a bit about them? I just want something simple with a proper framerate, and preferably an inbuilt microphone of decent quality. I don't want anything too expensive either, and I have no brand preference.

(I'm running a laptop with Windows XP)

I'm using Logitech's "Messenger" - which is the cheapest one, and I recommend NOT buying it :) It works fine for just talking with friends, but not good enough for video recording :)

Sorry that I'm recommending a product here, but I just wanted to give what little help I could give. Hehe.

i was dissatisfied by two cheapie webcams that I bought on ebay (less than five bucks each i believe) until I bit the bullet and bought the logitech 9000 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826104074

here's what I've learned after a lot of product research:
1) you get what you pay for
2) built-in mics will never replace a quality microphone
3) webcams are crazy expensive

having said that, I like my new one a lot - it takes a great image and the built-in mic is pretty nice. unfortunately, the acoustics in my room are pretty terrible so sometimes the audio can sound a little woofy - so much so that sometimes the audio "pops".

the built-in software is really nice and better than what i was running before (free version of debut: http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html ) plus there's a bunch of extra features that make this model a good buy.

they make this model for laptops, too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826104075

hope this helps!

ㅋㅋㅋ 현우 오빠 it's fine, telling me what NOT to buy is helpful too!

Matthew씨, you just made my wallet run away crying, thanks D: but from what I was seeing from reading reviews of various brands and models, I already expected it really was a case of you get what you pay for. $80 odd doesn't sound too bad though.
